Deming

Dr. W. Edwards Deming, was a statistician and one of the founders of the modern quality movement.

Dr. Deming took a holistic approach to quality and continual improvement. Because he established principles rather than prescriptions for improvement, his writings remain a fruitful source of ideas in a changing world. He is particularly well-known for his work in Japan, and his support for the need to co-operate with suppliers.

The Plan, Do, Check, Act (PDCA) cycle for continual improvement is called the Deming Wheel after him, while he preferred to call it Plan, Do, Study, Act (PDSA) to emphasise the importance of the check or study step.

Deming is also well-known for his fourteen points for improvement and his system of Profound Knowledge in which he identifies an understanding of psychology, the theory of knowledge, systems thinking, and an understanding of variation, as being the four key bodies of knowledge which must be used to understand situations and identify opportunity for improvement.

Walker Associates provides Consultancy and Training consistent with the teachings of Dr. Deming.
